Looking to buy the best budget PC/laptop/notebook? A computer purchase can be inexpensive if you know how to configure a cheap desktop PC that will fit your budget. When you are getting ready to buy a computer with limited funds, just remember that there is always a solution to every computer purchasing problem. However, the most important parts to check when choosing a laptop are the components that are hard to upgrade: the processor, screen and graphics card. Paying a little more for a machine with a newer processor is often wise, as it’ll be more future-proof.

The best place to start when buying a computer on a budget is a larger computer manufacturer. When you stick with a large manufacturer, you can leverage the company’s buying power to your advantage. Your components will cost less and you will get the highest quality possible with your limited financial resources.

Processor

Intel is a great choice for a processor. But if you are on a budget and not going to do perform any high-CPU consuming activities like day-trading, then it is good to know that you can choose another high quality processor and still get the speed you are looking for. Intel it still the high water mark in processors, but the competition has made huge strides in offering inexpensive alternatives. You will not be sacrificing speed when you choose any processor that a reputable computer manufacturer offers you.

Software Packages

Unfortunately, grabbing good hardware’s only half the battle. Big software manufacturers will happily relieve you of any leftover cash in exchange for their wares.

But luckily, aside from your operating system and your antivirus software, the rest of your software is optional. Instead of clicking on a software package without reading it, you should first make certain that you will use the titles you are paying for. If you do not need a particular software package, then keep your computer pricing low by not adding the package to your system. The same goes for anti-virus/spyware and other security software. Don’t be scared into buying big corporate programs. Check out their no-spend equivalents in the Free Anti-Virus & Safety Software guide.

Sound and Video

When you are on a budget, you need to expect that you will not be getting the most up to date sound and video cards in your system. However, the larger computer manufacturers offer motherboards with quality sound and video cards built into the system.

When you get sound and video built into your motherboard, just be certain that you have plenty of system memory to give your computer the speed you need. System memory is less expensive than separate audio and video cards. So you will be enjoying a cost savings when you use integrated functions in your computer.

Speakers

A basic computer that uses basic computer speakers gives extremely full sound. Unless you have a specific program where you need true surround sound, you can save yourself a lot of money on your computer configuration by going with the basic speakers that often come with the system.

Wireless Mouse and Keyboard

People love getting a wireless mouse and keyboard with their computer system, but there is really no need for it. Substituting the standard mouse and keyboard with a wireless system costs more money. In the end, the corded mouse and keyboard are more than adequate.

Also Checkout: Top 5 Best Budget Smartphones

When you use these configuration suggestions, you will be able to get the PC you want within your budget. Remember that you can upgrade your computer later as you are financially able. As long as you have a good computer to start with, then you will get your money’s worth.

With the technology we have, it’s normal if you want to purchase new gadgets. These devices will not only make you look cool. Obviously, it can also make your life easier. Take for example your mobile phones, if it weren’t for those, you won’t be able to communicate fast. And let’s talk about the internet connection. Don’t you think that it makes us closer? You can learn new things in just a click. Thanks to your modem, connecting is such a breeze.

Electronic gadgets are ubiquitous nowadays, with people increasingly relying on them for communication, information retrieval, entertainment and many other facets of their daily lives. Fragility is the cost of this convenience and, in order for the many gadgets that have become essential parts of our lives to continue to work correctly, they need to be properly taken care of if you want your gadgets to be protected from costly damage.

Price comparison websites are the best starting point when it comes to finding the electronic gadgets you are after, rather than aimlessly surfing the web or wandering around high street mega-stores like a zombie. There are also popular online blogs for finding gadgets, and a great number of shopping websites where you can easily find the specific gadget and often at a great bargain price.

The first point to bear in mind when looking after precious gadgets like a desktop pc is that they must be handled with some care because, by and large, they tend to be rather fragile. Internal components can become dislodged if the gadget is dropped accidentally, and this may make it inoperable. All such fragile gadgets should be kept in protective cases when not being used.

The question is, how do you take care of your gadgets? You are always using your devices on its full potential. But have you ever thought on how you can handle these properly? If you won’t do it, you will have to spend more changing units year after year. Here are some of the most practical tips on how you can make your gadgets last longer.

1. Protect Your Gadget From Water:

Water is one of the greatest enemies of electronic devices because it is an almost perfect conductor; if a gadget falls into water when it is switched on this can cause its components to short circuit. Water also corrodes metals to varying degrees, so if a mobile phone or other handheld device gets wet it should be wiped dry immediately to prevent the moisture from seeping inside.

2. Clean Your Gadgets As Necessary

Electronic gadgets need to be regularly cleaned as well. Keeping your gadgets clean and dust-free is important, as it may affect its performance.

A soft cloth should be used to wipe any accumulated dirt away, avoiding the use of chemicals and harsh cleaners because these may damage the case. Mild detergent in the water is usually enough; apply with a soft, damp cloth.

3. Protect From Extreme Heat/Cold Exposure:

Extremes of heat and cold should be avoided, as internal components can be irreparably damaged by swings of temperature. If taking them into such extremes cannot be avoided, then they need to be adequately protected in suitable bags and other casings.

4. Keep Your Gadget Away From Food and Drinks:

Many people, including me, work on their table with their computers and other tech stuff while eating or drinking something. This has been very common; however, we should be very careful about this because one small mistake, like accidentally spilling your juice, can damage your gadgets.

To avoid this, put your precious gizmos somewhere safe and make sure that your food and drinks are far enough from your things so even if there’s an accident, you’ll only have to worry about how to clean up the mess.

5. Always Repair Your Gadgets At An Authorized Service Center:

Another problem with electronic devices that cannot be separated from their utility is their sheer complexity, and when they malfunction in some way it is always better to get them looked at by an expert than simply opening the casing and ‘having a go’, which usually just makes matters worse.

If in case your gadgets broke down, don’t bring it to cheap repair centers. In the end, you will be paying more. It would be best if you bring it to well known repair centers. That way, you know that you are putting value on your money.

Bonus Tips: Take Good Care of Gadget’s Battery:

Batteries are a particular cause for concern in things like iPhones, iPads and laptops. Laptops should be left plugged in, which causes less battery strain, and the latest version of the battery should be used with iPads and iPhones. On all devices, check the programs available for extending and optimizing battery life.

Take out adequate insurance on your precious electronic gadgets as a final line of defense against their damage or loss. Many of these devices are quite expensive, and apart from the cost of replacing them there is the loss of irreplaceable data to consider; this should be regularly backed up on various media, such as external hard drives and discs.

I know I haven’t covered everything and there are a lot more things that can be done to protect your gadgets. These are just some basic tips that you can do. How do you take care of your gadgets?

Need BEST tips from computer experts to buy the perfect notebook? Buying a new laptop computer can be both frustrating and expensive.

Need BEST tips from computer experts to buy the perfect thinnest laptop? Buying a new laptop computer can be both frustrating and expensive. If you want to compute with more mobility you are advised to pay close attention to the specifications of the computer you buy.

Laptop and Notebook Computers Buying Tips

Portability and good performance make laptop PCs an essential part of the daily lives of millions of people, from college students to business travelers. Even the least-expensive of today’s laptops are well equipped for everyday work (including mobility) and come with minimal maintenance needs.

Processing Power and Graphics Capabilities

Now, this depends to a degree on what you want your computer to do – but generally speaking if you are looking for speed and easy transition between tasks, then you want a dual core processor at the top of its game. AMD and Intel both supply a range of dual core processors, and you can even squeeze performance in some gaming laptops up to 8 core. The graphics card you use will determine not only the smoothness of your images, but the degree to which you can see what the image’s transmitter intends you to see.

ALSO READ: Top 5 Best Laptops That Money Can Buy In 2011

From high quality gaming to watching HDTV on your laptop, you won’t get more than the upper limit of your graphics card’s capability – so make sure you specify a good one when you get your free laptop (though if it’s free you may not have a choice). Radeon is the current name to play with.

Wireless Capabilities

Obviously you can’t do mobile computing unless your laptop can connect to wireless routers using its own internal connection. Pretty much every free laptop will have the ability to find a wireless signal and use it so this shouldn’t be a problem. There are, though, extras you can add if you want to make sure you always have a mobile internet signal.

A 4G dongle will let you connect to the internet through a cell phone provider. The dongle has a SIM card in it, which uses the mobile phone signal to deliver an internet connection. For use in cities, any phone provider is OK.

If you live away from a city though you should make thorough check to find out how good or bad the mobile internet coverage from the different providers is in your area. Most dongles are on contracts, so once you’re in you’re in, and that’s useless if you end up with a company that doesn’t provide a signal worth using.

Battery Life

All laptop batteries are basically useless – in that even the most powerful ones quickly each a stage where they require charging every hour if you’re doing anything other than just staring at the screen. There are ways to prolong your battery life, though.

FIND OUT: Laptops, Notebooks and Netbooks; What’s the Difference?

Empty the battery fully every time you use it, and only keep the computer plugged in long enough to fully recharge it. If you keep your laptop plugged in all the time, the battery will die in a matter of weeks.

Because of the unimpressive battery life of most laptop batteries, you need to make sure you have at least one fully charged spare with you wherever you go. And bear in mind, the more computing you do (so the more stuff you have open and the harder the processor and cooling systems have to work), the quicker your battery will run out of juice. You can always try our proven tips to extend laptop’s battery life though.

Have you recently bought a new laptop? Are you considering one? Any killer selling points? Let us know in the comments below.

When the first MacBook Air came in January 2008, it was supposed to be the thinnest and lightest laptop in the world. But the new Samsung Series 9 Notebook is supposed to be thinner than others in the present range of notebooks and laptops in 2011.

When Apple launched the first MacBook Air in January 2008, it was supposed to be the thinnest and lightest laptop in the world. But the new Samsung Series 9 Notebook is supposed to be thinner than others in the present range of notebooks and laptops in 2011.

Samsung has come up with a 13.3-inch laptop which is lighter and thinner than the ultra-thin MacBook Air. To add to its style, the maker has incorporated an up-to-date processor which would cater to your diverse technological needs. So you need not worry about the compact frame’s inside because it is supposedly robust and adapted to your needs.

If carrying the heavy and bulky laptop has been a concern, you could now find an apt possibility in the Samsung Notebook Series 9. It has been designed with Duralumin, which although light-weight, ensures twice the strength of aluminium.

You can expect clarity and ease of viewing from every angle. Features also include backlit keyboard, attractive LCD display screen, a multi-touch pad which is large enough to give convenient clicks and many more. The laptop boots in 12 seconds.

It is technically equipped with the Intel Core i5 Processor. The powerful processor enables optimized power management while multi-tasking. Whether you are playing the latest 3D games, or compressing large-size photos, the applications would potentially work unhindered. The Turbo Boost Technology further enhances the performance.

You can expect hassle-free speed with the latest technologies. And weight is not supposedly an issue here. The SuperBright screens enable uninterrupted viewing even in direct sunlight. The advanced battery gives uninterrupted work space for about 7 hours.

Here is a $37 Laptop – The Cheapest Computer Ever

The Samsung Notebook has dimensions 12.9″ (W) x 8.9″ (D) x 0.62″ ~ 0.64″ (H). You may have to spend more for the laptop compared to the MacBook Air (the miniaturization, of course, has a price premium along with). It can be purchased for about $1499.99 at Amazon.

Apple has been putting efforts towards improvisation since its first launch. The MacBook Air is an example. It comes in two variations. The screen display sizes are 11 inches and 13 inches. Dimensions for 11 inches are 11.8 in (wide) × 7.56 in (deep) × 0.11 in (high). For the 13 inches, the dimensions are 12.8 in (wide) × 8.94 in (deep) × 0.11 in (high). The MacBook can give you uninterrupted 5-7 hours of work space. It has Wi-Fi wireless networking and Bluetooth 4.0. It has a 256MB-384MB DDR3 SDRAM main memory.

There are a host of applications which would give you the versatility and advantage to enjoy an extended work space. The 11 inches display laptop weighs 2.38 lb, while the 13 inches weighs a little more at 2.96 lb.

Check This Super Laptop – This is The Best Laptop You’ve Ever Seen

The new 1440 x 900 resolution is attractive and works great. The MacBook Air is made of aluminum and glass. Features also include finger up-scroll for the dashboard and mission control, which possibly eliminates the need for a mouse. The MacBook is light, thin and traveler-friendly. It is also light on your wallet too. The Apple MacBook Air is priced at around $999 (at www.apple.com).

But on the other hand, the Samsung Series 9 Notebook is only 16.3mm thin, being the world’s thinnest laptop of its kind. You can add this to your collection and style without compromising on the efficiency aspect.

Charlie Miller is a household name for those interested in Mac and iOS security. He was the first to hack the iPhone back in 2007, is a Pwn2Own veteran, and recently uncovered a battery firmware hack. Your MacBook’s Battery is vulnerable to Viruses, Malware and Meltdown if a hacker decides to target it and bring it down. If you have a software problem or if someone hacks your device, you can reboot and have your system running like a horse again. But what to do when someone can affect the hardware with the use of a software?

Charlie Miller has decided to take on the mighty Apple. He has found a way to hack the Apple Mac in a very interesting way. He is not a normal hacker who will make the running of your Mac different, but he wants to stop it altogether. A hacker can hack the battery module and stop the charging of your Mac. He can make it do anything he wants.

So believe it or not; your MacBook’s Battery is vulnerable to Viruses, Malware and Meltdown if a hacker decides to target it and bring it down.

What Apple Macbook Battery Hacking is About?

Charlie is just someone who wants his Mac to be safe from hackers. He is not out there to make Apple feel embarrassed. He wants Apple to go one step further, and make its devices foolproof. “I don’t want to be their adversary. I want to have them fix stuff — and I want them to get better“, Charlie said.

If you have a software problem or if someone hacks your device, you can reboot and have your system running like a horse again. But what to do when someone can affect the hardware with the use of a software? Charlie Miller has found a way to shut down the charging system in your Mac by playing around with the software.

How Apple Macbook Battery Hack Works?

There is a dedicated system for charging your laptop. There is a constant interaction between a computer and its battery module. The battery module is responsible for calculating how much more battery the computer needs, when to cut the power off. And for running that battery module, Apple has given software.

This software has passwords, so that a user does not rupture it in any way. Charlie Miller just goggled for those passwords and found them. He hacked his Mac, entered the passwords and changed the software according to what he wanted it to do. And now he can do many queer things.

Also Check: Best Tips For Macintosh Crash/Freeze Troubleshooting

He can change the software in a way that the computer doesn’t know whether the battery is connected to it or not. And your Mac won’t get charged, and you will just keep checking the battery wire connectivity to your Mac. And will keep checking if the battery is plugged in properly to the electric socket.

Implications:

If someone is heartless enough, he can force your Mac to blow. And it’s not in theory. If someone changes the battery software in such a way that the computer keeps getting charged, then it can blow up, leaving you with burns.

Solution:

The solution is that Apple should change the default passwords which are keyed in when the Mac is manufactured. Charlie presented his hacking technique at the Black Hat security conference. And he thinks that changing the passwords will stop this kind of Mac hacking. So, if next time you are going out to buy a Mac, then do open your wallet with a pinch of concern.

Thanks to CES, thanks to the handful of high profile announcements Apple has made over the years, thanks to the fabulous tech toys that we saw at Comic-Con last week, 2011 has become virtually synonymous with the year of some pretty cool and awesome gadgets and new technology. And we expect to see many more development of tools, gadgets and tech devices that will revolutionized the way people live.

Let us present you with a top 5 list of some of the coolest and best gadgets that have made an impact in the business world in the year 2011. these cutting-edge selections not only represent many of the best new gadgets that are available to business owners and working professionals in 2011, but will also continue to dominate the gadget world in years to come.

1. Best Gadget of The Year – Apple iPad 2

How can we continue the list without mentioning this uber-awesome Apple tablet! This second generation of iPad 2 refines an already excellent tablet PC. Its easy-to-use interface, vast app catalog, and marathon battery life bolster Apple’s claim to being the king of tablets. It comes with the advanced duo core A5 chip meaning it is twice as fast as the original iPad.

Apple’s iPad 2 is dramatically thinner and boasts front and rear cameras, FaceTime video chat, a faster processor, and 3G options for both AT&T and Verizon. The iPad 2 is thin–so thin, in fact, that it feels like a different device. Measuring just 0.34 of an inch, it’s thinner than the iPhone 4 and a third thinner than the original iPad.

Other spectacular features include a front and rear camera, multi-touch functioning, 3G and its Wi-Fi connectivity. The iPad has been touted by many as a possible best gadget of 2011. This device is very helpful for businessmen as it has full corporate data access and can support video conferencing.

Apple products will always have haters, but for most 10-inch tablet seekers, the thinner, lighter, and faster iPad 2 leaves very few reasons to consider the competition.

2. HTC Thunderbolt

The HTC Thunderbolt was Verizon’s first attempt at a 4G phone. The HTC ThunderBolt lights up with blazingly fast data speeds, but those who want 4G now should be aware that it takes a big toll on the smartphone’s battery life.

Download speeds consistently ranged between 8 megabits per second and 12 mbps on Verizon’s LTE network, which runs circles around the HSPA+ handsets that AT&T and T-Mobile try to pass off as 4G. The Android 2.2 smartphone also supports simultaneous voice and data over 3G and boasts a large 4.3-inch touch screen, ample storage, and an excellent camera.

The Android 2.2 smartphone might not offer the latest and greatest (e.g., dual-core processor), but with the carrier promising average download speeds of 5Mbps to 12Mbps and upload speeds of 2Mbps to 5Mbps, it’s no surprise why many are clamoring to get their hands on this dream gadget for the geeks.

3. BlackBerry Playbook

No more than 7” wide, BlackBerry Playbook promises an experience that’s even bigger, faster and limitless. It also comes with Adobe Flash Player 10.1, Java and Adobe Mobile AIR. And with 3G connectivity spreading some love, we’re definitely going to make the most of its 3mp HD front facing camera.

The playbook comes with a 1GHz dual-core processor and a 1GB RAM. The play book has symmetric multi-processing capability, which ensures that you can do many tasks with it at the simultaneously. PlayBook is also ideal for games, media, apps and everything else on the internet. It’s also quite a useful tool for video conferencing as it comes with front and rear cameras, HD display and rich stereo sound.

The most exciting feature of the Blackberry Playbook is the ability to sync with your Blackberry smartphone, providing you with a larger screen space for checking out your email, contacts, calendars, and other applications while on the move.

4. Casio Tryx

If you’ve heard of the Casio Tryx it’s most likely due to the camera’s innovative, twistable design. An ordinary digital camera at first glance, the Casio Tryx has an outer handle that swivels and rotates, so you can prop it up like a tripod or grip it in the fist like the now-defunct Flip.

Without qualification, this is one of the strangest, most bizarrely designed cameras we’ve ever seen, featuring a pop-out display and a grand total of two buttons for operation. At 4.8- x 2.3- x 0.6-inches, it’s certainly one of the slimmest, easy-to-carry point-and-shoots on the market.

There’s no question that the Tryx is snappy, produces reasonably great images in daylight and handles Full HD video like a champ and if you want to flaunt a unique looking camera then this is probably as best as it can get! But if you are looking for a more professional DSLR camera, then check out our list of Top 5 Best Selling Digital SLR Cameras 2011!

5. Amazon Kindle eBook Reader (Wi-Fi)

The Amazon Kindle e-book reader uses its wireless internet connectivity to allow its users to browse, read and shop online for e-books, newspapers, magazines, and other media. The third-generation Kindle’s winning combination of noteworthy upgrades–an improved screen, better battery life, lighter weight, and lower price–vaults it to the top of the e-book reader category.

Slimmer, more compact design than previous Kindle; improved screen with higher contrast and faster page turns; native PDF support; large library of hundreds of thousands of e-books, newspapers, magazines, and blogs via Amazon’s familiar online store; Wi-Fi access to Amazon’s online store; built-in keyboard for notes; with 4GB (3.3 usable) of internal memory, it’s capable of storing 3,500 electronic books; eight fonts available, including two new extra-large sizes; excellent battery life; displays image files, and plays MP3 and AAC audio.

The most common question we get around here is simple: "What laptop should I buy?" Being a generally difficult person by nature, I usually respond with my own series of questions: "What size screen do you want? How much do you want to spend?" and so on. But sometimes people just want a simple suggestion, based on what I actually like. So, here is a jargon-free list of the current crop of laptops that I'm digging, either because they give you good bang for your buck, they excel in their specific category, or because they just plain rock.

The most common question we get around here is simple — ‘What laptop (netbook computer) should I buy?‘ Choosing a laptop should never been a rushed decision. Laptops are often expensive, and simply choosing one because it is lightweight or have the look that you desire could have profound consequences later on. To make sure that you purchase the laptop that will have the look you desire and be able to operate under the conditions you need it to, always thoroughly review your laptops of interest. A few of our top favorite five laptops for 2011 include:

Apple MacBook Pro

As much as we would all love to see a laptop that out performs Apple’s MacBook Pro, it doesn’t look like we will see it anywhere in the near future. No matter which of the numerous laptop reviews you are scouring through, nearly all of them will say that the MacBook is the best laptop on the market. The only laptop that has been able to outdo the MacBook Pro has been the most recent version of this laptop. It literally has it all – great memory, an excellent processor, good graphics, and even a long battery life.

HP Envy

When it comes to PC laptops, the HP Envy is one of the most efficient on the market. Not only does it have an i7 processor, but it also comes standard with 6GB DDR3 RAM. This laptop also has a sleek design to suite its powerful and modern interior design.

Alienware M11X

If you are big in to gaming, then the Alienware M11X is for you. This laptop offers great graphics and a long battery life so you can game where ever you like without having to worry about plugging in.

ASUS UL30A

Lightweight, compact, and 12.5 hours of battery life make this laptop a crowd favorite. It’s a great laptop for grabbing on the go, and because of its long-lasting battery life, you are able to work anywhere for an extended period of time without even having to consider looking for an outlet. The ASUS UL30A also has an abundance of memory and 4GB RAM which is great for a laptop of its size. And to top everything up, this laptop’s battery life is top-notch and better than industry average.

Dell Inspiron i14R

Dell laptops have been a long-standing favorite of professionals and students alike because of their efficiency and relatively low costs. The Dell Inspiron i14R is our favorite in particular because it is incredibly fast and has an abundance of memory, and is easily affordable.

Have you been looking for tips to help you select the right mobile broadband device for you? Do you need to get connected to mobile broadband at home or on the go? Then this guide is for you.

There are now a multitude of options for those looking to get internet access with 3G and the one you choose has consequences in terms of price and ease as well as the for the eventual speed of your connection.

Using Simple SIM For 3G Connection

The first option is simple: if your device is a 3G enabled mobile phone, smartphone, tablet or netbook then you can probably just stick in a SIM and get going.

A SIM card has the lowest upfront cost of any of these ways to get online – it’s usually free, in fact – and ongoing costs tend to be low too, particularly if you get data as part of a contract.

Whether you go for PAYG or pay monthly it’s also one of the most efficient ways to get online since there’s no device to fiddle about with. SIM is no good if you want to connect multiple devices all at once, though. For that, see the MiFi section below.

The other downside is that larger, older computers and laptops tend not to be 3G-enabled. However, if you have a mobile phone that is, tethering means you can connect them remotely by SIM (see last section) or, particularly if you want to use more data, there’s always a USB device.

Is USB Good For 3G Connectivity?

USB modems are the traditional way to connect a computer to 3G mobile broadband.

The downside is that there is usually a small upfront fee for the device but the upside is that this (and connecting via MiFi, below) is the cheapest way to get online with a fairly large data allowance.

Allowances tend to go up to 15GB a month, as much as many home broadband connections, while SIM contracts usually only offer a few GB, rarely more than 3.

Is An External 3G Modem [MiFi] Good Enough?

A MiFi device or external 3G modem as it’s sometimes called does one job: it picks up 3G signal and converts it to a WiFi signal. That means, just like using a wireless router at home, MiFi users can connect multiple devices all at once.

But there are two problems:

The first is that mobile wireless broadband offer a fairly slow connection and converting that signal into an even more inefficient signal makes it slower still.

The second is that there’s a much higher cost for MiFi than with any other way to get online using mobile broadband. If you go PAYG expect to pay at least three times what you would for a USB and when signing up for a contract bear in mind that the price of the ‘free’ device is built into the monthly cost.

Tethering Your iPhone 3G As a Wireless Modem

Finally, here’s another sneaky way to connect a few devices. You might already have heard ways to tether your iPhone 3G to your laptop or tips to use your iPhone 3G as a wireless modem. Using a 3G-enabled mobile phone to connect a computer to mobile broadband via WiFi or USB is known as tethering. However, note that some mobile carriers have rules against tethering so check before you connect.

Yesterday, Google, the world’s most important technology company set out its contempt for computing as we know it. Google declared at their I/O developer event in San Francisco that after six months in which only a prototype was available, laptops running Google’s Chrome operating system will finally go on sale in June for consumers, businesses and education.

Google Chrome OS relies on all your services being accessible via the cloud. The new Web-centric PCs, made by Samsung and Acer Inc, are Google’s latest attempt to change how consumers and companies use their computers. “Attributes that make phones and tablets great…we’re bringing this to notebooks“, Google said.

The laptops will coordinate tightly with Google’s “cloud” online services, and have almost no capacity to store information. Instead, the bare-bones operating system is essentially a web browser that steers users to applications like email and spreadsheets directly on the web, rather than storing software such as Outlook or Word directly on PCs.

The operating system and Chromebook PCs thrive on Google’s web browser, also called Chrome, that competes against Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.

What are Chrome OS Powered Chromebooks?

- A laptop running on Chrome OS starts in about seven seconds. Now try to beat that record.
- A good device, such as the Samsung model unveiled yesterday, will have 10 hours of laptop battery life.
- Every time you turn it on, the software will check online to see if there are updates, and it will always boot up with the latest version.
- If there’s a catastrophic failure, for whatever reason, it will simply reinstall itself.
- Any documents are backed up online – in the “cloud” – and restored from the web.
- Ability to link to web apps for uploading images, videos and other multimedia.
- Speed, simplicity and security – the magic balance that many users have wanted from technology.

Chromebook Specs:

- Pricing starts at $349 (Acer)
- Web-centric Chrome OS, automatically updated, maintained by Google
- About 3 pounds or less
- Dual-core Atom 1.66GHz N570 processor
- 16GB solid-state drive (mSATA)
- HDMI port
- 11-inch and 12-inch class displays
- All-day battery life (Samsung and Acer specify about 10 hours)
- Instant-on
- Instant Web connectivity
- 3G connectivity, pay as you go
- Cloud-based apps, but key applications local like Gmail and Google Docs

On the downside, not everybody is online all the time. When Chrome OS is not connected to the web, the Chromebook becomes unusable. In fact, Google Chrome OS is pure Internet all the way. There’s no option to minimize the browser to see a traditional desktop. In a nutshell, it can’t run Skype, it can’t run Photoshop, and it simply isn’t the best machine for a power user.

Like them or hate them, Chrome laptops – Chromebooks – will be available from mid-June across Europe and in America. And they are priced around $349.

Originally named as ZAGGmate, the Logitech Keyboard Case for the iPad 2 is a huge hit among Apple’s iPad 2 owners. The Logitech Keyboard Case For Apple iPad 2 is made from aircraft-grade aluminum to match Apple’s tablet. It features a built-in wireless keyboard and is lined with high-density protective padding to keep the iPad 2 safe and secure and prevent the keyboard from touching (and thus damaging) the screen, even if dropped!

With so many favorable reviews from technology blogs for this recently launched keyboard case for Apple Inc’s iPad 2, shares of Zagg Inc rose 9 per cent to an 8-week high.

And dare we say, when connected to and iPad 2, it looks much like a MacBook Air!

ZAGG, which makes protective covers for mobile devices, earlier this month signed an exclusive licensing and distribution deal with Logitech International for its tablet computer accessory, the ZAGGmate case with keyboard. And we think the ZAGGmate will have much better consumer exposure and sell-through with Logitech’s distribution.

Logitech Keyboard Case for iPad 2 – Setting up [Video]

Priced at $99 you get a full keyboard that enables you to use your iPad in either portrait or landscape mode, thank Bluetooth technology for that, and you also get a layer of aluminum to make sure your screen doesn’t get any scratches or chips. So no doubt the price is right if you’re looking to strike a balance between style and functionality.
