We all know that Apple has just released iPhone 4G in last July, but we have already found the next iPhone version named iPhone 5 that promises to come with Ultra Thin design. Folks at HandyFlash have posted pictures of the next generation iPhone that will be so thin that it will make your handkerchief feel jealous! But if we look closer, this Ultra Thin iPhone 5 Concept Design looks too good (thin) to be true and it leaves us wondering – is this for real or fake?

A giant display with an ultra-thin body, this device is probably every iPhone owner’s wet dream. Along with the concept, HandyFlash notes that the next device could sport a 100Mbps radio within, come in 32GB and 64GB renditions, and carry an updated retina display. But unfortunately, if you look closely the iPhone 5 design is showing iOS 2. If anything was as serious as even an early concept, it would AT LEAST be showing iOS 3! If you would ask us about the design, is it great looking? Hell, Yeah. But is it possible to design this with the current technology? Unfortunately, No! When it comes to any li-io/li-po battery powered devices, THIN = BAD. Period. Current mobile battery technology just aren’t efficient and powerful enough to be physically scaled down to those levels of slimness.

This kind of slimness will ONLY be possible if they discover how to deal with the battery. A battery so slim that can fit on the above design will innovate the whole tech world. So it certainly is a cool concept but not possible with the current technology. Maybe Apple will need to surprise us just like when they introduced the first ever iPod!

As the bottom line, this is a nice exercise in rendering but even as a concept it’s far too impractical. It simply lacks the thickness needed for plugging in the dock connector or headphones. Even if you went completely wireless for sync & sound, the battery life would last about the duration of a sneeze. Not to mention that if it were constructed of anything less than carbon fiber or Titanium, it would snap in half in your pocket.

At any rate, we have to admit that Ultra Thin iPhone 5 Design is a great concept and we will hope that Apple will (again) do some magic to prove that it’s not fake! What do you think?

Apparently, the Apple iPhone 4 is just too hot to handle at the moment. Details are sketchy about this particular incident, but the newest iPhone could be hot in more than one way. The ‘Boy Genius Report’ reports that an iPhone 4 “burst into flames“ and burned hand.

Interestingly, this is the first reported case of an Apple iPhone 4 catching fire that has been reported since it’s launch. The user had the iPhone connected to their computer using the supplied cable via a USB port. The pictures, however show that the cable and port connection to the iPhone had been damaged and it appears the phone may not be repairable. The article also stated that:

“An Apple Store did confirm to our AT&T connection that this did appear to be a defective USB port and not some sort of user error. Our source went onto say that the phone bezel was extremely hot (obviously), and it slightly burned the customers hand. The USB port in the phone was slightly melted and the cord was badly melted (as is apparent in the pictures). Hopefully this is the only time we see our beloved iPhones meet a fiery death. We’ve got one more picture for you after the break.”

They have photos, helpfully provided by “One of our very close AT&T sources” [translation: a retail store clerk] of the melted USB cable and the scorched 30-pin dock connector at the bottom of the phone. The phone was connected via its USB cable to the owner’s computer.

Interestingly, although BGR says there was a fire, they don’t actually cite anything to back that (or the “bursting” flames assertion) up, not even a quote from the Very Close AT&T Source. According to BGR, according to their AT&T source, Apple says the cause was a defective USB cable.

At any rate, the AT&T store in question was apparently out of iPhones at the time, but otherwise it would have gladly exchanged the unit for a new one. Supposedly the problem was in the USB port on the computer the iPhone was attached to, so this is likely an isolated incident (just like when a Student’s iPod exploded in a busy classroom), not a problem with any standard hardware. But the destruction is pretty amazing — there must have been quite a bit of power flowing off into that USB cable.

But at least, when it starts burning you won’t run the risk of holding it (the iPhone 4) the wrong way [pun not intended]! The hurting doesn’t stop for Mr. Jobs. May be, Apple should consider shipping a mini fire extinguisher with the next iPhone release! When the world gets ready for a world war over this issue, we keep wondering — is this new feature called iFlames?

There’s no doubt that the Apple iPad (and most newer iPhones and iPod touches) can run Flash. A new open source project called Frash will allow iPad users to experience Flash in the Web browser as Adobe begins demonstrating its own efforts to port Flash 10.1 to the newly released Android 2.2 “Froyo”.

How to Play Flash Content on iPad Whether Steve Jobs Likes it or Not

Flash on iPad ? Steve Jobs says, “No, it can’t happen because flash is not meant for its touchscreen technology.” But he is proven wrong by a developer with his new program, the Frash. With Frash, he was able to run flash on an iPad. This is the same developer who brought us the Spirit jailbreak decided to port the mobile Flash plug-in for Android to Apple’s iOS.

He has managed to get Adobe Flash content to run on a jailbroken iPad, using a compatibility layer. He has managed this by porting Android Flash runtime to iPad. Comex is calling the port of the Android Flash runtime for the iPhone as Frash. The code is described as “extremely beta” and may not meet all the functionality of Flash on supported platforms, but frash has been demonstrated running Flash applications on the Safari browser natively.

Okay, so you have to jailbreak your iPad to use Frash. But if you don’t want to miss all those cool flash games, may consider jailbreaking the iPad. It may even work the same way on iPhone but only on the 3GS and iPhone4.

Video Demonstrating Flash Content Working on iPad’s Safari Browser

Frash won’t be able to address the issues that has prevented Apple from allowing Flash on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch but it seems to be the best bet for users who are missing Flash.

A large number of cell phone models have been launched recently. It is easy to get confused about the pros and cons in different models just because there are so many of them. If you fall in that category of people, here is a list of top 5 most discussed latest mobile phone releases. Actually it’s really difficult to select just 5 cell phone models from the list of literally hundreds. So while compiling this list, I’ve only considered the smartphones that were released within last 6 months and succeeded to impress many gadget lovers (including me).

So here we go. Top 5 famous smartphones of recent days: (clears throat)

1. Apple iPhone 4

The name itself speaks for itself; ain’t it? Apple iPhone 4! They did some hard work this time and have managed to bring in many of the iPhone wishlist features. And what users get is a magnificent GSM cell phone which is first of its kind. This 4th generation device from Apple has 1 GHz chip and 512MB of RAM, two cameras, HD video and the most discussed Retina Display- the highest resolution screen we have seen ever on a GSM phone. There are even more. Apple has introduced iOS4, which comes with some degree of cool multitasking capabilities, which is new compared to its older iOS counterparts.

The Dark Side: Oh yeah! The dark side. Terrible hardware design, which has created enough of iPhone 4 haters already, micro SIM card, FaceTime video call possible only with WiFi, Poor loudspeaker performance etc can play the spoiler here. Did I forget to mention about the signal failure flaw in iPhone 4 and how Apple has admitted it finally and bringing a software update to fix it soon?

2. Samsung I7500 Galaxy

We have recently seen a dozen of new handsets from the manufacturer Samsung. Samsung I7500 Galaxy is one of the most discussed phones of all. It’s said to be a Google experience phone with a 5 MP camera in it. Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate and turn to mute are one of the best features, this gadget has on its cards. Internal memory is pretty high as 8GB with an external storage-micro-SD support.

The Dark Side: Lack of smart dialing feature, outdated camera features, lack of video calling, absence of multi-touch gestures and lack of availability of 3rd party software pulls the device back.

3. HTC Aria

It’s similar to HTC HD mini in design and runs Android 2.1. It comes with HTC Sense user experience, 5MP camera, supports BlueTooth, GPS and a lot more features than what you’ll probably need to just dial a phone. Summing of the Pros; lots and lots of features, nice layout, fast web browsing, good camera quality, real quick processor are to name a few.

The Dark Side: The dark side for this phone is At&T; they restrict the user from non-android marketplace applications. And yes, the camera doesn’t come with a flash.

4. Motorola Milestone

It’s really a Milestone in the world of Android cell phones; and a menace for its competitors. This device runs with Android OS v2.0 with kinetic scrolling and pinch zooming. Motorola claims to provide the slimmest Side Slider with full QWERTY keyboard till date. 5MP autofocus camera, Wi-Fi, GPS (with A-GPS), microSD slot, bundled 8GB card, accelerometer and proximity sensor makes the device perfect.

The Dark Side: This lacks Divx and XviD video playback, voice dialing, flash support for web browsers and FM radio (Radio; If you really need it in 21st century)

5. Sony Ericsson Vivaz

Camera lovers; this is for you. You don’t believe me? This is a kind of Smartphone which can challenge a professional camera. This gadget comes with 8 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, face and smile detection, geotagging and touch focus. The cell Phone come with microSD card (comes with 8-16GB card in the Box), built in accelerometer, Turn-to mute, TV-Out, Stereo FM Radio, Office document viewer and a lot more.

The Dark Side: LED flash is not so powerful to fulfill the camera’s desire, no office document editing (without a paid upgrade), no stereo speakers, No DivX or XviD support goes against this otherwise great smartphone.

Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you probably know that the iPhone 4 has been out for just over a week, and users are having some signal failure issues with the smartphone. After initially dismissing the reports about the iPhone 4 antenna reception issue, Apple has officially admitted it exists, promising a software fix in a couple of weeks. But it is not as exciting as it sounds, though!

The (iPhone 4) Problem: “The biggest problem is with the antenna, the fact that if the phone is held from the left side, covering the small black strip that will cause the phone to lose signal. Some have dubbed it the “iPhone Death Grip,” and it seems to be a problem with just about every device.“

Apple’s Solution: “Users observing a drop of several bars when they grip their iPhone in a certain way are most likely in an area with very weak signal strength, but they don’t know it because we are erroneously displaying 4 or 5 bars. Their big drop in bars is because their high bars were never real in the first place.“

So supposedly, it’s a software problem with iOS 4 (and earlier versions), which Apple promises will be fixed in the next couple of weeks. Specifically, it has something to do with how the iPhone displays coverage and happens because, as per Apple’s claims: “iOS 4 (and earlier versions) erroneously calculated the formula which displays signal bars on the iPhone“.

This is what Apple said in a recent official announcement: “Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays two more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display four bars when we should be displaying as few as two bars. Users observing a drop of several bars when they grip their iPhone in a certain way are most likely in an area with very weak signal strength, but they don’t know it because we are erroneously displaying four or five bars. Their big drop in bars is because their high bars were never real in the first place.“

But that sounds rubbish when you consider that calls go through just fine when the iPhone 4 is placed on a table without any contact being made with the phone’s circumference, but calls drop when it’s picked up. If there really wasn’t any reception there whatsoever, neither call would go through. So basically this software update will display less bars in places where low signal reception is detected. But it will NOT stop your iPhone 4 (and earlier versions) from losing signal strengths if you hold it from the left side, covering the small black strip.

I don’t know whats more annoying – the iPhone flaw itself or the statement Apple released telling you to hold it a certain way. “Don’t hold it that way” huh? Blaming your customers for a product fault usually doesn’t end well. So it will be interesting to see how Steve Jobs digs himself out of this particular hole. Interestingly enough, Apple claims the miscalculation was present “since the original iPhone,” so the fix will apply to older generation iPhones as well. In any case, Apple has at the very least admitted that there is a problem and they’re working on fixing it.

The fix will come via a software update in the coming weeks, and will apparently show users that where they thought they had great service is probably an area with fairly weak service. Of course, this doesn’t mean that gripping your iPhone 4 won’t degrade the signal, it probably will, but at least it won’t decrease dramatically according to what Apple is saying.

While there are some people who are finding it amusing to find ways of destroying their new iPhone 4, here is a short film by Michael Koerbel, shot and edited entirely on an iPhone 4. Someone is apparently sending a message to everyone that iOS devices are as good for creation as they are for consumption! Shot on an iPhone 4 and edited with the iMovie app on the iPhone 4 in 48 hours — that is phenomenal and inspiring.

It’s remarkable that they were able to shot a movie, with a device that fits in your pocket! The shots in here are amazing and the quality of the video from the iPhone camera is truly breathtaking.

I must admit that my jaw dropped on a few of these shots. In short — this is “Wonderful”; nice little story and great use of great tools. This is crazy what they have done with this new iPhone 4 and I would not be surprised if Steve Jobs decided to nominate this movie for Osacr 2011!

The newly released and much-hyped Apple iPhone 4 appears to have a significant design flaw that causes the device to loose network signal when held your hand. Reports are pouring across the internet that highlight this problem, and TechRadar has discovered that their own handset is badly affected by the same problem, too.

Holding the iPhone 4 seems to quickly bring the handset signal strength down from five bars of 3G coverage to limited edge or even no data network coverage at all. You will notice that as the video draws to a close, the phone actually loses all network coverage.

This flaw was first identified in the MacRumors’ forum, but when tested with a phone call, it doesn’t really seem to affect the call quality. But even if this is just a visual flaw, it’s definitely a problem that Apple should look into. And this is something that might affect your decision if you were planning to buy these Phones for you.

Apart from this flaw, I would say that the fragility of the iPhone 4 is a much bigger deal than this. The signal strength thing is just an annoyance; the fragility issue means that you’re out of your phone if you drop it onto a hard surface on either side. Apple has to look at both issues and figure out ways to deal with them. Thankfully for Apple, the signal issue happens with the 3G and 3GS too and in spite of the visual drop in signal strength, people can still make calls. To me, it seems to be a glitch in the software rather than a hardware issue. What do you think. Is this news going to affect your plans to buy an Apple iPhone 4? If you’re looking for the new iPhone 4 why not compare the best packages with Phones4U today?

One of the rumors surrounding the upcoming iPhone 4 has now been confirmed – apparently, the new Apple phone will boast a whole of 512MB system RAM, which is twice as much as the iPhone 3GS that came out last year, and more notably, twice as much as the iPad tablet. We know, it can be disheartening news if you happen to be an iPad user who bought the Apple tablet recently. But the additional memory will supposedly give the iPhone 4 much more robust multitasking.

We had heard that Apple confirmed this 512MB figure during one of the WWDC sessions last week, and have now verified this. The added RAM should help overall performance and multi-tasking on the new iPhone 4. It could also explain why the iMovie App that Apple introduced at WWDC will only run on the iPhone 4. Apple has said iMovie will only run on the iPhone 4 and not the 3GS or even the iPad. It seems conceivable that it actually makes use of the extra RAM offered by the iPhone 4.

Furthermore, it seems that the new change is aimed exactly at improving the iPhone’s multitasking performance, according to an Apple representative. With the old 256MB of memory, a lot of time and power went wasted into memory management, which will no longer be an issue. Some of the new features of the iOS 4, which will be launched on Monday, will allow programs such as Skype and Pandora to accept incoming VoIP calls, or play music while another application is taking focus in the foreground.

The mobile operating system upgrade will also let users quickly switch between in-memory applications using an “app tray” that appears when users double-tap the iPhone’s home button. The 256MB mark appears to be the minimum required for iOS 4 to multitask; while iPhone 3G owners can still upgrade their phones to the new OS, they won’t get multitasking.

However, this confirmation of 512MB in the iPhone 4 contradicts evidence gleaned from photographs of prototypes leaked by the Gizmodo technology blog in April, and a Vietnamese site last month. In both instance, experts said that the next-generation iPhone would probably have only 256MB, the same as in the iPhone 3GS and the iPad.

Apple makes a pretty ballsy claim about the iPhone 4’s display: “The pixel density is so high that the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels.” They’re pushing against the limits of the human body. Is it true? The iPhone 4’s screen may be the best mobile display yet, but its resolution does not exceed the human retina, as Steve Jobs (Apple) claims.

But what exactly is a Retina display and how will it, along with other screen technologies, benefit the new slimmer, HD-ready iPhone? To put it simply, Apple’s figurative Retina display is an LCD that boasts a super high pixel density by squeezing a 960-by-640-pixel resolution into 3.5 inches–a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch (ppi).

As announced in the WWDC 2010, The Retina display has four times the number of pixels as previous iPhones; its screen size is unchanged, resulting in double the pixel density. When compared to the now $99 iPhone 3GS, which has a 163ppi screen with a 480-by-320 resolution, it’s easy to imagine just how this new screen will shine. But make no mistake; the Apple iPhone 4 Retina Display is still NO match for the unaided human eye and the claims are mere false marketing according to Wired!

As it turns out, Apple’s claims behind the iPhone 4’s Retina Display aren’t completely true, display research veteran Raymond Soneira claimed. While Apple claims that 300 pixels per inch (PPI) is the limit of the human retina and that the iPhone 4’s 326PPI easily exceeds it, the DisplayMate president notes that the resolution would need to reach 477PPI for the pixels to truly be ‘invisible’ to a healthy human eye. Apple’s claims don’t become completely true until about 1.5 feet from the LCD.

A display with more resolution than most people can detect would have been a true statement. But instead, Steve Jobs said that the display resolution exceeded that of the human retina. Plenty of people have better than average vision, so Jobs claim is clearly exaggerated. Whether Jobs was lying or not depends on if he believes what he said. He could have received bad information or misinterpreted what he heard. Either way, it’s still an exaggeration of the truth.

Soneira noted that Apple would likely need to go above the retina’s actual resolution to have a visually “perfect” display. Apple’s Retina Display claims are thus another example of “spec exaggeration,” he said. The researcher was nonetheless careful not to undermine the significance of the display, as he still thought it was the best mobile display on the market.

It ultimately comes down to how far you hold the iPhone 4 from your face. The further away, the better it’s going to look. And about the whole “Retina Display” thing — Could it get better? Sure, but we got to admit that so far this is the closest thing ever done in smartphone display technology for the consumer market that matches the human retina resolution.
