The burning smell of an iPod can stop a moving train. It did in Tokyo, where a passengers burning, overheating iPod caused a train to stop, think it was on fire, and then realize it was just an iPod. And that iPod had burst apart, so that isn’t good for Apple, the passenger, anyone.

An unidentified, malfunctioning iPod brought a Tokyo subway train to a halt for an eight minutes during this morning’s rush hour, Reuters reports. Around 8:20AM passengers complained about a burning smell, forcing the train to come to a halt while officials went searching for the source. A female passenger then came forward to show that her iPod had burst apart after overheating.

The train was stopped in western Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward for eight minutes — quite a long time for Tokyo’s busy train schedule — at around 8:20 a.m. local time. “When a member of staff went to investigate inside the train, a passenger came over showing him that the iPod she was listening to had burst apart,” the spokesman of the rail line operator Tokyu Corp told Reuters. No injuries were reported.

Apple has declined to comment. The debacle may only worsen Apple’s public image in Japan, which has been marred somewhat by a series of incidents in recent years, involving first-generation Nanos overheating and in some cases producing fire or sparks. The Japanese trade ministry now claims that there have been about 60 such cases, including four that caused minor burns; the number is up from a recent tally of 34.

Apple has described the problem as rare, and attributable to a single battery supplier. At the same time, though, the company recently began a replacement program, ordered by the Japanese government. Prior to formal demands, Apple Japan is said to have been unresponsive to pressure to take market steps, such as issuing warnings or a recall. At any rate, it isn’t good news for Apple, considering the recent claims that reported iPhone 4 bursting into flames (with pics to prove)!

There’s no doubt that the Apple iPad (and most newer iPhones and iPod touches) can run Flash. A new open source project called Frash will allow iPad users to experience Flash in the Web browser as Adobe begins demonstrating its own efforts to port Flash 10.1 to the newly released Android 2.2 “Froyo”.

How to Play Flash Content on iPad Whether Steve Jobs Likes it or Not

Flash on iPad ? Steve Jobs says, “No, it can’t happen because flash is not meant for its touchscreen technology.” But he is proven wrong by a developer with his new program, the Frash. With Frash, he was able to run flash on an iPad. This is the same developer who brought us the Spirit jailbreak decided to port the mobile Flash plug-in for Android to Apple’s iOS.

He has managed to get Adobe Flash content to run on a jailbroken iPad, using a compatibility layer. He has managed this by porting Android Flash runtime to iPad. Comex is calling the port of the Android Flash runtime for the iPhone as Frash. The code is described as “extremely beta” and may not meet all the functionality of Flash on supported platforms, but frash has been demonstrated running Flash applications on the Safari browser natively.

Okay, so you have to jailbreak your iPad to use Frash. But if you don’t want to miss all those cool flash games, may consider jailbreaking the iPad. It may even work the same way on iPhone but only on the 3GS and iPhone4.

Frash won’t be able to address the issues that has prevented Apple from allowing Flash on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch but it seems to be the best bet for users who are missing Flash.

I know you might be a little skeptical about a movie-tie in game, but hey, let’s not forget Gameloft brought us the amazing Avatar game, which wasn’t much of a movie-tie in at all. If you are an Iron Man fan like I’m I bet you have been desperately waiting for its release. Only few days to go for the Iron Man 2 movie release date but the Iron Man 2 game for iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad is already here, in rich 3D graphics, interesting story line, real-like locations, and awesome gameplay.

Gameloft is traditionally a mobile company, and as they say, they’ve worked on “small to very small” devices, so the iPad is a new trick for them. They say that developing for the iPad allowed them to ramp up the graphics, and helped to make the new game that much more immersive. I couldn’t agree more — the bigger screen of iPad definitely makes a difference in terms of focusing on the game and we have already seen the proof in our recent review of the iPad game — Plants Vs. Zombies where a gamer could play multitouch game with 11 Fingers [Video].

The Iron Man iPhone app offers nine levels of thrilling action and gaming extravaganza as you travel around the globe fighting evil from the advanced Stark Expo center in New York to the jungles of Somalia for a truly wholesome entertainment.

While you as Tony Stark, battle the bad heads in your ruggedly beautiful Iron Man exosuits, and all through the game play, the War Machine will also be there to give you a helping hand.

On the ground and in the skies, Iron Man will go head-to-head against Ultimo, Firepower, Whiplash and armies of other foes who want to take him down. But who is really pulling the strings of this sudden onslaught against Iron Man? He’ll need the help of War Machine and S.H.I.E.L.D. to defeat them all.

The Iron Man iPad game also allows you to customize the touchscreen controls to suit your comfort levels, however the Iron Man iPhone game does not.

Iron Man 2 Game for iPhone & iPad Walkthrough

It looks like it probably will be more of a movie-tie in than Avatar, but I have hope for the game. I’m extremely excited for the open environments of New York the game features, letting you free to roam around them.

The Iron Man game for iPad, iPhone and iPhone Touch requires the device to run iPhone OS 2.2.1 or later and is available at non-US apple store for $9.99 [Click here to download Iron Man 2 game] while the US version of the game is scheduled to release sometime after the movie release.

Watch Iron Man 2 Game for iPhone & iPod Touch in action

Use the touchscreen controls to run around, float the jets, fire the weapons and even to dress up your armor, and all this should seem as easy and comfortable as it has been with all the previous Gameloft games including the incredibly popular Avatar game.

Evidently the most dramatic announcement of this month’s Apple event was the addition of video capability in the latest generation of the iPod nano. Think beyond music and photos; an iPod with video capturing and Gaming in it. A massive upgrade to Apple’s smallest-screened media player, adding very good video- and game-playing capabilities to the previously music and photo-only popular iPod nano. It achieves better than promised battery performance as well as nearly equivalent video and audio performance to the iPod classic, making better use of its smaller components. Though shape is different, and screen is bigger and more detailed. On the flip side volume is not dramatically increased over prior nanos though. Available in six colors and two storage capacities at very reasonable prices.

As a video camera, the new nano is remarkably good. It’s also extremely simple to operate and takes decent quality MPEG-4 video at VGA resolution (640×480) at a fluid 30 frames per second rate. The total bit rate of its movies is around 2,500 to 3,000, making the output files portable and compact, and well-suited for online use. Missing from its arsenal (for now?) is the ability to shoot stills; the nano’s camera captures video only. Also you don’t get the full range of video-editing features that you have on the iPhone 3GS. However, you still get a lovely range of fun video effects to choose from.

iPod nano Video Strengths:

Exceedingly wide-angle lens when you compare to pocket camcorders.
Cool 16 video effects to choose from.
Breathtakingly awesome Macro mode.
Small video-file sizes; makes it easy on the memory.
The latest nano is much more smaller than any pocket camcorder available in the market.

iPod nano Video Weaknesses:

Not so user-friendly and unconventional lens placement.
Shoots only videos; no still images.
Too bad low-light footage.
Video effects can only be applied before you shoot the video.

The audio recording quality is even better when you record video using the mic integrated into a pair of iPhone-style headphones. Note that the nano only ships with standard headphones lacking an integrated mic, however. Even using the nano’s built-in mic, audio is very decent and very usable for the casual applications one can expect of it.

You probably won’t want to use the iPod Nano’s tiny speaker as a boom box for listening to music, as it isn’t capable of producing very high fidelity music, but it can serve a functional way to share videos with friends without using headphones.

Like any tiny CCD camera, it takes the best shots in good lighting. Inside in dim lighting, shots get noisy and motion blur is a lot more evident. The video-capable Nano isn’t going to put Flip out of business, but it will dramatically expand the number of recording eyes out there in the hands of millions of iPod users. Given that the Nano’s video recording feature doesn’t cost any premium over the previous generation, Apple is effectively dumping millions of free video recorders into the market, something that may badly hit the emerging market for standalone video recorders.
