Angry Birds, the super-addictive Android and Apple game from Rovio that seems to be taking over the world, will finally be available on the Windows Phone 7. This uber-popular mobile game Angry Birds is coming to Windows Phone 7, the game’s developer, Rovio Mobile, tells Pocket-lint. Not only that, but Rovio has confirmed that there are also plans to release the game in 3D.

After lunching on PlayStation 3 And PSP, Angry Birds, the uber-popular and super-addictive Android and Apple game from Rovio that seems to be flying high and taking over the world and all major platforms one-by-one, will finally be available on the Windows Phone 7. Not only that, but Rovio has also confirmed that there are also plans to release the Angry Bird game in 3D.

Apparently, Rovia is working on a version of the game for Windows Phone 7, but gave no release date. As to why there’s been such a delay in the game being released for Windows Phone 7, Rovia’s Peter Vesterbacka strongly implied the delay was on Microsoft’s end, saying, “Let’s just say, Microsoft has a lot of lawyers.“

This hiccup, however, has fortunately nothing to do with the fact that Microsoft unlawfully used the Angry Birds logo (i.e. without Rovio’s consent) on its website last October as part of their promotion for the launch of Windows Phone 7 (WP7). But even at that time, Rovio had made clear that they were willing to work with Microsoft on a WP7 version of their game.

And now it seems all their differences have been put aside as Rovio’s Peter Vesterbacka claims that “there’s no bad blood between the two companies.“

The 3D version of Angry Birds will be produced in three-dimensional (3D) for Nintendo 3DS and 3D Optimus LG. Vesterbacka also confirmed the company is working on a 3D version of the game, though he gave no details about a launch date or a platform. “We’ve built a lot of 3D games before,” Vesterbacka said, “it’s not like it’s a lot of learning in order to recreate the technology with Angry Birds.”

It is worth mentioning that today Angry Birds is one of the most phenomenal games in the gaming universe. Until now the game has been downloaded 12 million times on various platforms for gadgets like the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. As for the version of Android, the game is recorded has been downloaded 5 million times since its release in October 2010. Angry Birds was recently awarded “Best Mobile App” and “App of the Year on the Apple Platform” from the Mobile World Congress.

In the mean time, a release date for neither the Windows Phone 7 version of Angry Birds, nor the 3D version, has not yet been confirmed. No details were released about pricing. The game cost 99 cents for the iPhone, and is free and ad-supported on Android.

There is great news for Opera Link users with Windows Phone 7 devices – it has been reported that Opera Link is in the works for WP7 phones. Opera Link allows users to easily synchronize Bookmarks, Speed Dial, Notes and other useful browser data between your computer and Windows mobile phones.

Opera Link is a way for you to bring your desktop browsing experience with you wherever you go. From your desktop, you can simply share your browsing information such as your typed browsing history, bookmarks, speed dial, personal bar, notes and custom searches with other browsers using the cloud.

Once that is implemented, it shouldn’t be too much hassle to take your browsing session along with you when you have to leave the computer. It’s also worth noting that Chrome to Windows Phone is on the way, offering you an alternate solution.

You store your settings online on the my.opera.com site and you just log in to the site with your alternate browser to download the same saved settings. A very convenient function if you constantly find yourself away from your desktop computer and need access to all those bookmarks you saved, and a function that WP7 surprisingly doesn’t have yet despite its emphasis on utilizing the cloud.

If you were waiting for a jailbreak for your Windows Seven WP7 Phone for the sake of ‘freedom’ and whatever it is that gets you going through the day with a phone that can run apps with access to private APIs, here is great news! Rafael Rivera, Long Zheng and Chris Walsh have come up with the jailbreak called ChevronWP7, which lets you unleash the potential of your Windows Phone 7 phone.

Three men have just done that, as Rafael Rivera, Chris Walsh and Long Zheng put out the ChevronWP7 yesterday, an executable file that allows users to sideload apps to a Windows Phone 7 phone – making it possible to install software on the devices without going through Microsoft’s official Windows Marketplace.

Users only need to have their phone connected PC Computer via USA to unlock their latest phone. The unlocked phone gets the ability to run the application other than that of Windows Phone 7 Marketplace. Microsoft is following the Apple strategy with Windows Phone 7 because it doesn’t allow application for outside source to be installed in the Windows Phone 7 powered phones and with ChevronWP7 it is no more a problem for “freedom” seekers.

Previously, only people with developer accounts on the Marketplace were able to do this. Now anyone with a Windows Phone 7 device, Windows XP SP2 or higher, and a USB cable connecting the phone to a PC can do it with ChevronWP7. However, according to the creators, expect issues with the app since it’s v1.0. Also, the download link seems to be missing so far [Microsoft interference, perhaps?], but as soon as it’s up, we’ll let you know.

Update: Download links up Now!
http://walshie.me/ChevronWP7.exe and http://www.multiupload.com/4T7AYFWLSZ

How to jailbreak Windows Phone 7 Using ChevronWP7?

The tool is pretty straight forward to use; just download the tool, connect your phone, and run through the unlock tool. It’s straightforward, very low-risk and completely reversible. Of course you need to have Zune desktop software installed as well as a Windows Phone 7 device.

- If you’re encountering a connection error, try download/install the following registry key and restart your machine and try again
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsPhone\ProxyPorts]
“DeviceReg”=dword:000069C5
- Minimum supported OS: Windows XP SP2
- Please ensure your device has a “full sync” relationship with the Zune client, not a “guest” relationship

If you have a WP7 smartphone and try this jailbreak let us know if it’s as easy as the developers are stating it is.

If you’re the owner of a shiny new Dell Venue Pro and can’t seem to connect to a secure wireless network, you’re not alone. Its official now — PC giant Dell’s new Windows Phone 7-powered smartphone Venue Pro reportedly has a WiFi glitch. The company has acknowledged that a firmware glitch — certainly not a hardware problem nor a bug in Windows Phone 7 — is the culprit.

Lionel Menchacha of Dell wrote in a blog post, “We have confirmed that the Wi-Fi connectivity issue that was reported in blogs like Boy Genius Report and Ubergizmo resulted from a software glitch during Dell’s manufacturing process. The issue affected some of our initial phone shipments and was not a hardware issue or a Windows Phone 7!”

Menchacha added, “Customers who purchased Venue Pro smartphones on Monday or Tuesday (November 8 or 9) at a Microsoft Store and who are experiencing the protected Wi-Fi network connectivity issue also have the option of bringing your phone back to the Microsoft Store for an exchange, beginning at the end of next week. Your new phone will fix the Wi-Fi issue as well.“

Menchacha wrote that customers who acquired a Venue Pro on Nov. 8 or 9 at a Microsoft Store and who are experiencing the protected Wi-Fi network issue will be able to swap their phones free of charge at the end of next week.

Unfortunately for Dell, this firmware issue isn’t the only problem causing a bit of consternation among owners of the Venue Pro. Some users have reported on blogs like TheNextWeb that the batteries in their devices are labeled as “engineering samples.”

According to Menchacha, “After investigating we concluded the batteries shipped and sold at Microsoft retail stores are indeed production quality — they were simply mislabeled at the factory. We have addressed and corrected the oversight and are working with our partners at Microsoft to replace Venue Pro units to ensure people are 100% satisfied with their purchase. Again, these are production quality batteries but were simply mislabeled. Those seeking exchanges may return to Microsoft retail stores and swap out their phones for new ones beginning early at the end of next week.”

Incidentally, several users of HTC smartphones running Windows Phone 7 have also reported WiFi problem similar to faced in Dell Venue Pro. However, the company has not issued a statement.

As expected, yesterday Microsoft unveiled a number of sleek, high-resolution, powerful Windows Phone 7 powered smartphones on the AT&T network. Microsoft also unveiled two T-Mobile devices; but nothing from Verizon or Sprint until 2011. The publicly announced Windows Phone handset makers so far include Dell, HTC, LG and Samsung. Interestingly, the latter three have track records of strong commitments to Google Android handsets.

However, it was speculated that Microsoft would be showing off an iPad-like tablet or another iteration of WP7 for tablet devices but this was not the case. Microsoft stayed on target and only spoke about the Phones and new Phone OS. The new handsets will be released in Europe on October 21st and in north America beginning November 8th by AT&T. The first phone with Windows Phone 7 will be the Samsung Focus and a couple weeks after AT&T will release the HTC Surround and LG Quantum, all three will cost 199.99 with a two year contract. T-Mobile will be releasing the HTC HD7 mid November and the Dell Venue Pro at an unspecified date. Sprint already has a phone exclusive to them; the HTC 7 Pro will be released the first half of 2011.

Here is a video tour of the event and some hands-on time with the Focus, Optimus 7, and Surround. Be sure to drop into the comments section below to tell us if you think Microsoft is finally on the right mobile strategy track.

Microsoft Launches First Windows Phone 7 Handsets

All in all, however, Microsoft is most assuredly back in the smartphone game. Windows Phone 7 is a smart, easy to use, and legitimately original OS, and the folks in Redmond seem to have the partnerships and marketing in place to make an impact in a crowded field. It will be interesting to see the company reemerge in this race, and you can be sure we’ll be there every step of the way.

Here is how to anger an Angry Bird? For Rovio, developers of the popular mobile game of the same name (Angry Birds), you simply have to indicate that the company somehow endorses your product or service without ever having contacted the company to obtain such a permission.

When tech bloggers discovered an icon for the popular mobile game Angry Birds in a Windows Phone 7 promotional image, it seemed like confirmation that the game is coming to Microsoft’s smartphones, but the developers behind Angry Birds tweeted a denial of any commitment to the platform.

Angry Birds developer claims Microsoft jumped the gun, Rovio ‘not committed’ to Windows Phone 7

In the tweet, Rovio Mobile clearly states that it’s presently ‘not committed’ to bring the game to Windows Phone, and that their icon is being used in Microsoft marketing completely without permission.

Microsoft reps then sent a note to TechFlash admitting that the image was a mistake. “It appears information was mistakenly posted to Microsoft’s website, and has been removed,” the statement said.

Angry Birds is a standard-setting iPhone game that also appears on Android, webOS and some Nokia phones. It has sold at least 6.5 million copies to date, so it’s a perfect example of an app store success story — a story Microsoft would like to see told on the Windows Phone 7 platform, too.

According to the data, approximately 36 million Americans are smartphone owners, with 40% of those owning Blackberries and 25% owning iPhones.
The guys at FierceDeveloper have put together this nifty chart showing the top smartphone operating systems by number of active users in the United States in October, based on comScore’s data. The following chart is based on a list that is derived from a three-month average ending in October of U.S. mobile subscribers over the age of 13. ComScore asked respondents what type of phone they own, and derived operating system information based on those responses.

This has been an interesting week for smartphone enthusiasts who don’t mind the hype of iPhone. This week we saw two giant smartphone OS developers, Google and Palm, rolling out their respective upgraded versions back to back, Google Android 1.6 (code named Donut) and Palm WebOS 1.2. This is worth watching for because Microsoft is also planning to release Windows Mobile 6.5 in a matter of hours, on 6th of Oct 2009.

Microsoft has already announced that the first Windows phones, identified by the fact that they are running Windows Mobile 6.5, will be made available at retail stores worldwide on October 6, 2009. Microsoft is underlining that version 6.5 of its mobile operating system brings an improved user interface and that the Internet Explorer Mobile browser includes a new engine as well as built-in Adobe Flash Lite support.

Google’s Android 1.6 Donut has support for CDMA radios, QVGA and WVGA resolutions. Android 1.6 also brings Quick Search Box for Android which is fundamentally universal search that searches locally on your phone and through the internet at the same time, new text-to-speech APIs, and the beautiful new Android Market. The camera’s interface has also been updated with improvement to the camera’s loading time (approx. 39% faster), and a neat battery usage indicator that details which applications are using the most power. One of the most striking advancements is the introduction of CDMA support in the telephony stack which will open the door for Android phones to launch on Verizon and Sprint. Under the hood, Android’s Linux kernel has undergone a boost from version 2.6.27 to version 2.6.29, the most important smartphone-related change being the introduction of Intel’s open source WiMAX stack and drivers.

On the other hand, Palm has also launched a new update, version 1.2 of WebOS. One of the most remarkable advancements in this update is support for LinkedIn in the Palm Synergy synchronization service. Palm has also added the ability for users to input a credit card number in the App Catalog program, indicating that commercial software could be ariving soon. Quick Search, like Google Android 1.6 Search, isn’t something iPhone supports at the moment, but is something we hope Apple must be looking into if they need a way to survive the competition. Palm announced the release in an entry on the company’s official blog. A more detailed overview of the enhancements can be found in the release notes.

Being a smartphone user, which OS would you prefer? Google Android Donut 1.6, Palm WebOS 1.2, Windows Mobile 6.5 or the mighty iPhone?
