Have you ever heard the name BATMAN? I’m sure you do. But, if you are not into the comics world, you might not be aware of the term Arkham Asylum. So, let me tell you what this word means in Batman’s dictionary. This is the iconic psychiatric hospital of Gotham city. Thanks to Eidos and developer Rocksteady for bringing this game to the gamers. Batman: Arkham Asylum is an action-adventure stealth video game based on DC Comics’ Batman for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. You have to deal with almost all the villains Batman has ever fought in his life, as BATMAN! As Batman, you get toe-to-toe with the thugs in fast paced punch-ups as well as you can play with various gadgets, enjoy the stealth tactics, solve some incredible riddles and yeah, you can do a decent amount of detective work (Remember Sherlock Holmes? ).

The Storyline:
To start with Batman: Arkham Asylum, this is not just for the diehard fans of Batman, but a game for everybody who is into the world of video gaming. It is a third-person action game casting you as, oh yeah; you guessed it right, The Dark Knight himself. You first time you boot up the game, the first part will be the story mode. According to the story, Batman has captured JOKER, and as the intro rolls on, you see him being returned to the asylum under Batman’s watchful eyes. Joker throws a party in Arkham island and guess what! Batman is the guest of honor. Clearly it’s a trap, but as Batman, you just can’t walk away from it.

Sounds like a typical Batman story huh? Yeah it’s of course a typical Batman plot. But to add the spice there is also something that can interest a lot of gamers. Harley wears a fairly skimpy outfit exposing her lady parts. There are words like a$$ and b!tch sandwiched in between to keep the spice up. To know the condition Arkham Asylum; it’s dark, creepy, messed up by the thugs and dead guards laid out on the floor. It’s awful and you are into a very, very Batman-looking world in Batman’s gesture hunting for the psychopaths. Every gamer will have their own experiences and memories about the game. I had mine, Mr. Zsasz holding a knife to a female Doc. She was screaming for me to save her. I could hear the Joker too, screaming at Mr. Zsasz to kill her. You’ll enjoy the parts of the games where Scarecrow influences you, The Dark Knight!

Game play in this kind of environment is tough and designed in three different ways – attacking from the shadows, fist fighting and exploration. On the way of finding Commissioner Gordon’s kidnapper or while chasing Harley, you’ve to deal with the thug. Joker’ crews are ready to kill you and you got to be ready with your moves to erase them. These scenarios escalate the flow of adrenaline and you feel like you are into the longest night of batman’s life.

Once you master the skills of combat, you can experience the best fighter on your screen (Remember guys! He is a trained NINJA). Even though you master the fighting skills, it’s not easy to survive as you lack the bullet proof vest Mr. Wyane gave you. You get a bullet and you end up high in the Bat Cave. So think of a combat where there are a number of thugs with guns in their hands. They have the instruction from Joker to kill you. So do you think, all these fist attacking and kicking hard will save you from a bullet which can be shot from anywhere around? Here is where the skills like X-ray visions, detective work, shadow attacking helps in clearing the mess. It’s not necessary to be a hard core player to beat the game. You just should have the skills and more importantly a brain with the ability to innovate new ideas.

TechChunks Rating for Batman: Arkhum Asylum

Presentation (9.0)
This is what Batman’s world feels like. It’s dark and gritty. You’ll feel Batman’s frustration and the terror of hostages. In-game cutscenes and lip syncing could be better.

Graphics (8.5)
Batman’s forearms are too big and hair tends to look plasticy, but the game looks great in motion. Batman’s damage detail by the end of the game is a nice touch.

Sound (9.5)
Most of the voice acting is out of the world good. I could listen to the Joker and Riddler talk all day long. The score sets the mood as well. Excellent work.

Gameplay (9.5)
At its core, the fist fighting is simple but it is fun. Meanwhile, attacking from the shadows and using bat-gadgets is what being Batman is all about.

Lasting Appeal (9.0)
Beating the story and 240 riddles took me some hours. If you don’t feel like Edward’s clues, you’ll be done faster. The challenge mode should keep you going if you dig the combat.

OVERALL – Outstanding (9.3) (out of 10 / not an average)

Do you remember Ra’s Al Ghul? I don’t want to spoil anything but; it’s hard to keep it hidden from you people. It’s cool to find him in this game. There are a lot of detective levels to be solved, around 240 riddles to be handled with, which can give you a lot of experience points. These help you out to unfold character bios, character trophies and challenge mode maps. The flavors of the riddles are all different. Some of them have really good rewards like getting an insight to the asylum’s history, to take a photo of yourself which can make you feel smarter, and if you are luckier you can get the experience points to purchase your next upgrade.

All I can say about Batman: Arkham Asylum is that it’s an all time best comic book video game. AI is pretty cool with its marvelous response. It is the best Dark Knight game packed with fun elements, a little bit adult content to raise the spice, unbeaten voice talent, great graphics and so on. There are flaws too but, very subtle to distract you from the game.
