The horror genre is at a strange stage of evolution in the entertainment industry. Meanwhile, horror videogames have turned into shoot'em-ups with far flung sci-fi settings (Dead Space) and muscle-bound, invincible protagonists (Resident Evil 5). Do you remember the famous Jigsaw from the movie SAW? Hollywood has shown us the optimum level of blood bath, torture, horrific pain, traps through SAW. He is back again. But this time, not in the screens. He is back in the world of Video Games.

Saw the Video Game, partially succeeds in bringing a taste of Hollywood horror to your console by grounding itself in the gritty and depraved world of the popular film series. Users will experience the same shock as the movie gave to its viewers. The movie series is an all time best among horror genre lovers. The violence, the sound mixing, the unimaginable twists at the end amuse the viewer to the core. When the game is taken into account a question keeps on arising. How the hell someone can make a game out of SAW? What’s the plot of game? Am I the Jigsaw or the victim in the Game Play?

The horror genre is at a strange stage of evolution in the entertainment industry. Meanwhile, horror videogames have turned into shoot’em-ups with far flung sci-fi settings (Dead Space) and muscle-bound, invincible protagonists (Resident Evil 5).

Storyline: The game play starts with protagonist Detective Tapp, unconscious with a metallic helmet affixed to his head. He starts to struggle so as to remove himself from the deadly trap as soon as he gets consciousness. The metallic helmet will bisect his skull unless he reacts really fast to the trap. He should quickly press the corresponding buttons that flash on the sides of the device. Though the puzzle is a simple one, it gets difficult to escape due to the presentation which creates high tension. The intense music and the surroundings give the users a nerve-racking experience

Tapp soon realizes the scenario pretty well. He too finds himself in the insane asylum created by a psychopath labeled “Jigsaw” by the press. According to Jigsaw’s claim, he hasn’t killed anybody. He just puts a set of actions/choices in front of the victims. The victim kills himself/herself due to the dilemma caused due to the difficult choices (s)he is left with.

Game Play: The game is broken into different chapters. The achievements and the number of chapters are kept constant to create a more intense platform for the user. Let me not spoil the game The game is from the greatest hits of Saw series. You can experience the scenarios, characters and violent set pieces extremely familiar. All the traps like barrels of pig guts, limb twisting, and improvised surgery can be seen in the Game Play. The violence is not good as the movie but have enough potential to remind the movie lovers about “John- The Jigsaw”.

Graphics: The graphics are the part which can be really enjoyed. Creepy, messed up world, traps everywhere, a dead body in the window who failed in the trap, trip-wire, door traps will freak you out alone. The darkness around you will make you feel; you are not alone in the freaky asylum.

Warning! Week heart, children and pregnant women; keep out.

Music: “Hello there. I want to play a game. Some people are so ungrateful to be alive, but not you… not anymore”. Remember this quote? Remember the voice? Tobin Bell; who created the magic with his voice in the movie is back with his Jigsaw voice again. Oh yeah! With Earl Alexander (or as you know him, Louis from Left 4 Dead) doing the voice of Detective David Tapp and Tobin Bell returning for his roles of Jigsaw and doing the voice of Billy the Puppet, it is more than enough to keep you entertained by these wonderful voice actors whom we all probably already love.

However, the game would have been much more exciting had there been a little bit of variety, or less filler. The game needs to be polished by the developers in its future releases so as to make it a bench marker in the world of Horror gaming. Overall, it’s a welcome entry in the horror genre, packed with thrills. Wanna test your nerves and scare yourself during a dark and stormy night?

Go for it!!!
