Don’t you think that ColorWare acted quickly when it comes to the Apple iPad, somehow knowing that it is going to be a big hit upon its release? Well, just to let you know, you can now have your iPad’s body, logo and button come in its own solid, metallic or pearl color of your choice. While you can purchase a new iPad from them with a custom paint job for $900, those who already own an iPad can send it in for a customized paint job for a cool $400.Okay, not so cool, after all. We know with an extra $400 you could buy one more iPad.
The Apple iPad starts at $499 and goes up from their depending upon whether you buy the WiFi version or 3G version or if you decide to get some additional Apple accessories. Now, add as a minimum an extra $400 for the new coat of paint via Colorware. It’s probably more then most would want to spend, but I’m sure there are some that would be enticed with the idea of owning a customized iPad.
For color options, users will can choose amongst 21 solid colors and 21 metallic colors that are available in soft touch or glossy finish and there are an extra 4 “Pearl” color choices available as well. Now for those that just aren’t satisfied with the color choices available, you can request a custom color but be prepared to pay an extra $250!
The blue and yellow scheme featured looks pretty good, I’d say, but I’m thinking that going with a red iPad could just spur on an increasingly overwhelming number of immature jokes about feminine hygiene.
Regarding Colorware’s offering, $400 will get you a glossy painted body and an extra $25 is what it takes for a soft-touch painted body. Included in this price is no cost colorization of the Apple logo and the control buttons located on the iPad. Finally, for those interested, expect roughly a three week turn around time.

There’s several things wrong with this, though. One: painting over the sleek aluminum with plastic? Hideous. Two: $400? Really? That could (almost) buy another iPad. Three: Three weeks? Without your iPad? Would you Colorware you iPad for an extra $400?

I think you are right bro, $400 for a color job certainly sounds hideous. You can buy another Ipad at that price
