Google Talk, a popular instant messaging service used by millions across the world, is suffering massive outage. Frustrated Google users, unable to communicate via Google’s instant messaging service, popularly known as GTalk, are venting it out on the social media services such as Twitter and Facebook. The service is down in several parts of the world. Google acknowledged the problem, saying, “We’re investigating reports of an issue with Google Talk.“
The company has updated the following status of Google Talk to acknowledge the outage: We’re aware of a problem with Google Talk affecting a majority of users. The affected users are able to access Google Talk, but are seeing error messages and/or other unexpected behavior. We will provide an update by 7/26/12 6:20 PM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change.

That’s 1:50 PM in London, 8:50 AM on the East Coast in US. Until then sit tight!
The outage was first reported by users on Twitter, a social networking website. “Google talk being down is massively annoying! You don’t realize how much you take it for granted,” Pete Gould, a Twitter user said.
Many users reported that even before the outage, the Google Talk service was unreliable since morning. They said that in many cases the messages were not being delivered or right status of contacts was not shown.

Yes, it was down yesterday but it’s working fine now. But what did actually happen ?
We wish we could know more about what caused it, but here is what Google was ready to tell:
“The problem with Google Talk should be resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better.”
By the way Twitter was also out for a while yesterday. So much for one day!
