How to Make Ubuntu look like Windows XP with GnomeXP















Why would you want to do this? Well, you can trick your mother into thinking she’s on Windows. Or maybe you want to ease your friend into a Linux conversion. Or maybe just because “why not?” Whatever is the reason, I believe that most people are afraid of Linux because they just don’t want to get out of their comfort “Windows” zone. Linux on the desktop is perfectly capable of doing everyday tasks, and it does it more efficiently and securely. And finally, here is one nice little trick that can help you start using Linux by providing you with the friendly “Windows XP” visual experience.

Recently a young Linux geek who goes by the name PhrankDaChicken has created a script that will fully theme your Ubuntu desktop into an XP one.

How to Make Ubuntu look like Windows XP with GnomeXP:
It’s pretty simple actually. Just download the tar.gz file, Right-click it and select “Extract Here”, then run the “InstallXpGnome.sh” by double-clicking it and choosing “Run”! Wanna revert back? No problem! Just run the Restore_Settings.sh script in the restore folder. Isn’t that a cool trick to turn your Ubuntu powered computer into a Win XP look-alike? ;)

    Thanks for this info. I have a pc running ubuntu that looks like a mac, but in order to help migrate my school to ubuntu, it will help greatly if ubuntu looked like xp.
