We at TechChunks.com made a sensational revelation back in Nov 2009 when we discovered about AVG Antivirus 9.0 Search Shield Blocking Google Cached Pages as Active Threats and now Kaspersky antivirus seem to be following AVG’s foot-steps! An update to Kaspersky‘s popular anti-virus software on Monday falsely identified Google Adsense as a malicious script.
As a result of the false alarm, Kaspersky users visiting sites in Google ad syndication network were falsely warned a site was infected with malicious Trojan-linked JavaScript. Network admins, swamped with inquiries, posted their experiences on a growing Kaspersky forum thread. Network admins and web publishers were faced with a flurry of complaints from users who believed legitimate sites were serving malware via Javascript.
Kaspersky Lab has reportedly said it is aware of the Google Adsense problem, and that an update to correct the problem should be issued shortly. No further details were available at the time of going to press.
Kaspersky users visiting TechChunks.com who get the warning: “Trojan.JS.Redirector.ar Links to pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js//show_ads” can be assured that this is a false alarm.
The Adsense false positive started happening just hours after the bit.ly web address shortening service was wrongly added to Kaspersky’s blocklist en masse as links to phishing sites. The Russian security firm said a fix for that problem would be published with its next malware definition update.
False positives still make for a well known shortcoming with anti-virus packages that affects just about every vendor from time to time. Flagging Windows systems files as potentially infected and shuffling them off to quarantine causes far more problems than if a false alarm happens to involve general applications.

Black-flagging such a widely used web application as Google Adsense arguably creates even more confusion, as the problem with dodgy Kaspersky Labs updates on Monday serves to illustrate.

I don’t use Kaspersky
Me neither! But don’t know how many of my readers use it.
Mistakes happen all the time but wow, that’s a bad false positive!
Yeah it’s bad, it’s ugly and it’s inglorious!
Kaspersky blocked Infolinks few weeks back and now Adsense, anyway the problem was resolved in a day.

I have seen other such false warnings. But I think this time Kaspersky went over the top and made a serious blunder!
I used kaspersky a while back .. but didn’t liked it much .. now i have no fear .. as i am on a mac

I know it sounds paradoxical but Linux and Mac are not malicious-proof – not anymore. They may be less vulnerable than Windows but they are still at the risk of being attacked. This is a reason why AVG recently launched an Antivirus for Linux and Kaspersky recently released Anti-Virus for Mac (http://techchunks.com/technology/kaspersky-releases-anti-virus-for-mac/)!
Scary, huh!
sad that big anti-virus companies with paid products can be so careless, they should test it properly before releasing it… now the readers that we lose due to their mistakes is our loss, they would not even care about it

Looks like the Antivirus companies are all set to wage a war against Google, Alexa and Co.
That explains the virus warning I got yesterday. Kaspersky said there was a virus on a website Google advert. Thanks for the info.

I think Kasperkey must have warned you about a Trojan; not Virus!
Hmm…. your seems to be right bro… they are about to wage war

Allow me to disagree with you Pubudu.
You might be on Linux, but NOT ALL your visitors. would you want to lose your readers just because they saw a false trojan warning on YOUR blog due to a mistake on the part of the antivirus company? Still think that You are NOT affected by this? Think about it
