After a number of alpha and beta releases, Opera Software has announced the final release of Opera 10.50 for Windows, which they call “the world’s fastest browser for Windows“. Apart from performance improvements, Opera 10.50 comes packed with other new features, as well as improved integration with Windows 7.
The upgraded browser includes a new JavaScript engine, known as Carakan, as well as a new graphics library, dubbed Vega. “What that means to you: no more waiting around for a site to load,” Opera said. Opera 10.50 also incorporate private browsing, which lets you browse the Web without leaving a trail. This version lets you browse privately in a tab or a separate window. That’s not all. The new Opera menu button replaces the traditional menu bar, so you have a single-point to access all of Opera’s groundbreaking features.
Opera 10.50 is the fastest browser in almost all speed tests,” Lars Boilesen, Opera CEO, said in a statement. “But, more important than any speed test is the real-world speed during use. We designed Opera 10.50 to be easy to use, while making our unique features stand out, so you can get more out of the Web.“
Opera also promises a “leaner” browsing experience to allow for more content on the screen, as well as a new menu button that replaces the traditional menu bar.
You can download Opera 10.50 for Windows from Opera’s site (Linux and Mac versions are coming soon) — and if you’re running an older version of the browser you should seriously consider upgrading. Opera 10.50 is an excellent browser, and it’s been winning fans with its speed ever since the new Carakan JavaScript engine was bolted on. without any doubt Opera 10.50 is the best effort from Opera to date. I’ve not encountered any of the site-crippling incompatibilities that I had in the past, and even our own CMS loves the new version. Apart from the speed everyone is raving about, Opera’s trademark personalization and tweaking options are phenomenal. If you haven’t tried it, open opera:config in your browser and dig in.
Roll in additional features like integrated torrent downloading, Link synchronization, Unite, and Turbo, and Opera 10.50 has something for everyone — from casual users to browser-punishing enthusiasts.

If you’ve put off trying Opera before, now is the time. Take Opera 10.50 for a spin and share your thoughts!

Mate, I am typing this comment from Opera! I am running Opera and Chrome side by side.
But Chromes seems to load and run faster than Opera.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
Interestingly, I found opera 10.50 as fast (if not faster than) as Chrome and Firefox 3.6. And looks like Opera has finally come up something that has potential to compete with other browser biggies.
I have never tried opera , i will try using it this time
Sure, give Opera 10.50 and try and come back with your experience. We’re sure you’ll love it’s speed
I have tried Opera in the past, but I was not satisfied with the features.I am much satisfied with Firefox.

When I say that “I find Opera 10.50 to be fast”, it doesn’t mean that I’m ditching Firefox and moving to Opera permanently. Speed is a good aspect of browsing, but (un)fortunately it’s not everything!
I like this browser! I use this browser regularly and I specially like the Inbuilt feature of Speed Dial in Opera!

Glad to see an Opera fan among us.
I agree with Aaron, Opera has lost its magic a very long time back, and I don’t think they can cope up with the current competition.

I had assumed the same, until I tried the all new Opera 10.50. I would suggest you to give it a try and then come back and tell us your experience.

I think it also depends on what site you are trying to open, number of images present on the web page (Chrome handles images much better than other browsers), number of java scripts used on that page etc…
I did think about that, I felt the Opera takes a longer time to resolve the address, Inspite all browser use what DNS we specify, there is drag in Opera, apart from the I think Turbo helps a lot , May be you missed it, It compresses scripts and css I guess ( for each site you visit, it tells you the size that has been saved).
And I also feel that they should have minimized , Opera Unite is not that cool as I expected it to be, But the widgets are awesome.

This is exactly why I can’t stop myself from sharing a love-hate relationship with Opera. They rock in some areas (probably the best) and suck elsewhere! It’s a shame that it is so difficult to get a browser that wins in all areas (Firefox and Chrome come close, but still not perfect)!
You still may get pop-up ads on Opera. I don’t know if you have ad-blocking on Opera or not. However, they will be regular popups meant to be opened by the site you are visiting.
If your Opera fails to block all the Pop-up ads, you could try a pop-up blocker.
I’ve been using the the beta and snapshot versions for awhile now and I’ve been very impressed. It really is the fastest browser on earth. Even on Linux. Omg! Ubuntu did some speed tests on it awhile back and found the same thing.
