Samsung Galaxy S Player; Android Powered iPod Killer Coming Soon

iPod Touch has been the most selling media player and gaming device since its birth (According to Steve Jobs). There has been an urge to make a music player that can beat the iPod Touch. Different companies have always come with different sorts of music players and gaming devices and to tell the truth, nobody could ever reach the standards of iPod Touch (According to Jojo). I have had my hands on many gaming devices cum media players but was never satisfied with their performance. I could never feel that “iPod feeling” in other similar gadgets. But when recently I used the Galaxy S mobile from Samsung and it felt really cool. And now, Samsung is going to launch the media player version of Galaxy in Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2011 (According to the sources).

Samsung Galaxy S Player; Android Powered iPod Killer Coming Soon

It appears the device takes engineering clues from the Galaxy S smartphone. In other words, the Galaxy Player is basically the same hardware “sans the cellular connectivity.” Unlike the iPod touch which is 2.1 millimeter slimmer than the iPhone 4, the Galaxy Player will reportedly measure 9.9 millimeter in depth, the same as its Galaxy S phone counterpart.

If the site’s “Galaxy S phone minus the phone part” claim holds true, the Galaxy Player should have the following specifications: 1GHz processor, four-inch Super Clear LCD display running at 800×480 pixel resolution, T-DMB Sound Alive audio enhancing technology, WiFi 802.11n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS3

The player is dubbed the Samsung Galaxy Player and will be sporting the model number of YP-GB1. But perhaps a little more exciting than that is the specs which include a 4 inch Super Clear LCD, 1GHz processor and Android 2.2 Froyo.

Now, Galaxy S, the iPod Touch killer! I cannot imagine how good it would be for that. Here is my assumption of Galaxy S’s design and comparison with iPod Touch. Enlighten me if you get any other points except these.

Samsung Galaxy Player Specs:

Operating System: One runs iOS and the other one will be powered with Android OS 2.2 Froyo. According to me, iOS has been in the market for more than 4 years and Android is new, it’s fresh. Those who love Android’s freshness, galaxy S would be the right choice for them.

Click Click… Camera: Before the music event of Apple’s, it was predicted that iPod Touch would come with at least a 2MP rear camera. But, the disappointment was its VGA type camera. News say, Samsung is coming with a 3.2 rear camera which may be plus for the Galaxy S.

Space: iPod touch comes with 3 options; 8GB, 32GB and 64GB. Samsung may come with options; 8GB, 16GB and 32GB and external microSD slot too. That’s the catch here. Users have always missed that expansion facility in iPod Touch. Looks like Samsung has read the user’s mind well.

Others: According to the resources, Samsung galaxy S will be 9.9mm Wide, 1Ghz Hummingbird processor, 4-inch LCD screen with up to WVGA resolution (800X480), SoundAlive audio enhancing technology, Wi-fi, GPS and Bluetooth 3.0 enabled, HD video playback and so on. All these features look promising to me except the resolution. But, I think it would be okay as movie playing would be better with the bigger screen.

All these features are good enough to compete with the iPod Touch. However, we have not received anything regarding the pricing of the gadget. iPod touch is staring in the range of $229 without any contract. Samsung Galaxy Player should meet this range so as to compete with the benchmark set by Apple.
