Today while surfing through YouTube, I came across this video that gives a very quick look back at the Google story over the last 11 years. This short video takes a (very) quick look back at the Google history over past 11 years – from Stanford to Mountain View and around the world, featuring many different products, starting with BackRub (Search) up to Google Wave, StreetView and Chrome.
Google Timeline and Google Milestones also provide a great timeline of Google’s History.
It’s fascinating to see how Google began in January 1996, as a research project by Larry Page, who was soon joined by Sergey Brin, when they were both PhD students at Stanford University in California. They hypothesized that a search engine that analyzed the relationships between websites would produce better ranking of results than existing techniques, which ranked results according to the number of times the search term appeared on a page. Their search engine was originally nicknamed “BackRub” because the system checked backlinks to estimate the importance of a site. Isnn’t it almost impossible believe how dramatically BackRub has evolved into present day Google with it’s verity of search features and it’s power and reputation as the Number one Search Engine?
